Build an S&OP or QBR Deck with Copilot in PowerPoint

What This Does

Instead of opening a blank slide and rebuilding last quarter's layout by hand, Copilot in PowerPoint can create a first-draft deck from a written prompt, a Word document of talking points, or an existing deck used as a template. You start editing a formatted draft instead of a title slide.

Before You Start

• You have your S&OP decisions or QBR talking points written up somewhere, a Word doc, notes, or a prior quarter's deck
• Your organization has a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. See Microsoft's Copilot page for current plan requirements, or ask IT
• If your company has an approved brand kit set up in Microsoft 365, know its name so you can apply it instead of a generic template

Steps

1. Find the Copilot feature

Open PowerPoint and start a new presentation. Look for the option to create with Copilot, generally offered on the startup screen alongside blank and template options. From there you can choose to build from a prompt, a Word document, or an existing file in SharePoint, OneDrive, or a Copilot Notebook.

2. Tell it what you need

Point Copilot at your source. Upload or reference the Word doc with your S&OP decisions, or point it at last quarter's QBR deck and describe what should change. If your company has a Brand Kit Picker set up, select it so the draft comes back in your organization's colors and fonts rather than a Microsoft default theme.

3. Review and use the result

Copilot returns a formatted draft with slides broken out by section. Read every slide for accuracy before the meeting, especially any slide that states a KPI, a supplier commitment, or a financial figure pulled from your source document. Reorder, delete, or ask Copilot to rebuild individual slides rather than starting the whole deck over.

Real Example

Scenario: You have a Word document with this month's S&OP decisions and need a deck ready for tomorrow's leadership review, and your last deck's layout is buried in an old email.

What you do: Open PowerPoint, choose to create with Copilot, and point it at the Word document along with last quarter's deck as a style reference. Apply the company brand kit if one is set up.

What you get: A draft deck with a title slide, a decisions summary slide, and one slide per exception, in your company's colors, ready for you to tighten the wording and check the numbers rather than build from a blank canvas.

Tips

• If your company saved a Copilot "skill" for repeatable deck formatting, use it. It saves you from re-describing the same layout preferences every quarter.
• Before any KPI, cost, or delivery number on a Copilot-built slide goes in front of leadership or a supplier, check it against the ERP or the source sheet it came from. Copilot can misread a table or carry over a stale figure from a template deck.
• Ask Copilot to rebuild a single slide rather than the whole deck when only one section needs a different structure. It keeps the rest of your edits intact.

Tool interfaces change. If the create-with-Copilot option has moved, look for a Copilot or AI option on PowerPoint's startup screen or Home tab.
